LX Factory

Beneath the 25 de Abril Bridge in the Alcântara waterfront area, LX Factory occupies a set of 19th-century industrial buildings that once housed one of Lisbon's major textile factories. The complex was repurposed as a creative hub in 2008, and today houses over 100 independent businesses: bookshops, design studios, concept stores, restaurants, bars and art galleries — all within the raw industrial architecture of the original factory.

The Sunday Mercado de LX transforms the complex's internal streets into a market of vintage clothing, plants, artisanal food, ceramics and jewelry — one of Lisbon's best weekend activities. The bookshop Ler Devagar, with its famous bicycle hanging from the ceiling surrounded by books, is one of the most photographed interiors in Portugal. Restaurants range from casual street food to serious Portuguese cuisine; the rooftop bar has views toward the Tagus.
